With 20,000+ stories submitted and only 120 or so promoted, I think it’s a bit of a stretch to call it “social news” (also, out of the many thousands of daily readers, what percentage actually SUBMIT articles?). Digg is really a collection of articles selected by Digg editors/admins so it is very much like The Drudge Report in the end (minus the obvious right wing slant). Either way, Digg does well so good for them!
