Social Faceoff: Google Buzz vs. Facebook vs. Twitter
Four months ago we asked you to vote in our Web Faceoff series for your preferred social network between the two current giants: Twitter versus Facebook. The results were pretty close, although Facebook edged out Twitter in a 48% to 40% victory. Now, there’s a whole new game in town.
Google Buzz is now the new shiny, and represents Google’s big push into social networking meets mobile social meets location services. We know it’s still the early days for Buzz, but it seems like a good time to gauge the opinion of Mashable readers thus far.
Have you had a chance to spend some quality time with Buzz? Do you like the service? Are there parts about it you don’t like? Does it draw you away from other social networks, or complement them? Let us know your vote for best social service in the poll below, and be sure to let us know why you picked your favored winner.
Who would win in a fight: Google Buzz, Facebook, or Twitter?(survey)

Actually with Chrome Google doesn't care about being in 1st place, they just want to influence web standards (hence dropping Gears and pushing HTML5).

Agreed, that's significant, but they hardly rate vs. Firefox and IE. Being way off behind 1 and 2 isn't where Google likes to be.

Yeah. Often times it makes you feel like you have to double your posts between Facebook and Twitter. I ended up just using the selective Twitter app on Facebook where you can add #fb to the end of your tweet and it will automatically post to Facebook.
The one place I really see where Buzz could shine is on Google Maps. Recently there was an update released for Google Maps on Android which adds Buzz. It's cool because you can navigate maps and see bubbles where people have posted to Buzz from. These could be used to review a restaurant in the area, warn of traffic backups, etc. On the other hand, someone could just incorporate Twitter as a geo-tagged overlay on Google Maps and you've basically got the same thing, but you avoid having to utilize yet another social outlet.
Stop trying to reinvent the wheel.

I think directionality is part of the reason myspace isn't mentioned. Facebook is growing; Twitter is growing; buzz is growing. In contrast, myspace is shriveling up faster than a block of Velveeta left to dry on the counter. Buzz might not be on top, it might never make it to the top, but for now it's consistently growing, and that's something that myspace just can't say anymore.

You make very good points. I find myself becoming more and more annoyed by the Twitter-like aspects of Facebook, and spending more time on Twitter because that's where I would rather see those features.

I love Buzz, but I still use all three services in different ways. I'm still trying to figure out which things I want to post where, though.
