Microsoft’s European Browser Choice Screen Causes Spike In Opera Downloads
According to Opera Software, downloads of its latest desktop browser (10.5) have increased in number significantly after Microsoft started offering Windows users in Europe a choice in browser with a so-called ballot screen.
The Norwegian software maker says that on average, more than half of the European downloads of Opera’s latest browser come directly from that Choice Screen.

I bet it gets chosen many times simply because its description contains the word Turbo.

Opera is definitely a good browser but this is a move by microsoft to overcome the bad name got by the bugs of internet explorer.

they got free advertisement on Microsoft’s back and they don’t even have to pay a dime for it.

It’s great to see that Opera is getting the push that it deserves. Simply a fantastic browser for those who enjoy it.

I tried Opera recently and didn’t like it. Switched back to IE8. Opera has an unfamiliar feel and look to it, rather foreign and doesn’t match well with Windows 7 IMO. It also kept prompting me to reauthenticate to sites – rather an unpleasant experience all around.

That’s odd. I’ve gotten support when I reported a bug, every website I visit works fine on 10.5, the Opera communities helped me out to alter Opera to better suit me, and I’ve never been hacked.
Of course I’m sure you can bring up examples of such things, but then so can I for every other web browser out there.

So I guess that mean they’ve finally passed the 100 user mark? ha ha ha!
I kid, I kid!
I don’t have many issues with IE myself but choice is always a good thing.

opera downloads more than doubled, as in from 5 to 10?
March 18th, 2010 saat: 2:18 pm
30%-70% of the total downloads originate via this. That’s a pretty large number IMHO.

Don’t think users will stick with Opera. No way. With Opera it’s still not possible to view every website. Opera support sucks (doesn’t exist in other words), Opera doesn’t listen to their users and finally thanks to Opera, hundreds of thousands of users will get hacked because of this wonderful “webserver unite”… or just some great botnet lol

Well done Opera!
And they were the 1st ones pushing this issue with the European Commission, so I guess they deserve the increase.
What about other browsers? Did Chrome, Mozilla and the smaller players reveal their numbers yet?

They should have listed it as the only browser developed in Europe….
